This project came to ameliorate effects of the formal education, which is driven by test taking, increasingly failed to require students to ask the kind of questions that led to informed decisions and development of critical thinking. According to the research performed on the final exams students took to graduate school, only 11.6 % of tasks in the biology exam tested critical thinking, 3.8 % in the geography exam. However, critical thinking was crucial to adapt to the rapidly changing world due to technological breakthrough, globalization, digitalization and other similar processes. There was no need to mention the necessity of critical thinking to evaluate nowadays information and news on media. We had been discussing the need for critical thinking competencies with our friends and other young people from the community at several events organized by our NGO to disseminate the results of previous projects. We noticed a general interest in this specific competence of more young people, thus decided to perform an online test to see the level of critical thinking. More than half did not reach a satisfactory level for the age 16-22 years old. Although, the online test could not be taken for granted, was a strong indicator of a low level of critical thinking competencies. Another indicator – harder integration into society. After deeper discussion, we realized that 2 out of 3 young people who took the test graduated high school but did not enrol in university and were struggling to find a job in the local community. Hence, improved critical thinking competencies of youth contributes to find a job, start studying or pick up where unfinished initiatives, choose acquiring a specific profession or start freelancing or even own business. Collaboration was made of 5 countries (RO, LV, CZ, MK, BG), 40 young being supported by group leaders with experience in youth work. The goal of the project was to increase critical thinking competences of 40 young participants from the 5 countries mentioned above as a powerful tool for better integration into society, smoother transition from education to work and higher social inclusion. The achieved objectives by the end of the project are: O1. 40 young participants from Romania, Czechia, Macedonia, Bulgaria and Latvia discovered practical exercises about how to improve critical thinking by the end of the project. O2. 40 participants from the 5 countries increased awareness on the benefits of critical thinking and fields it may be used until the end of the project. O3. 40 participants got familiarised with effective dissemination ideas and created a plan for dissemination of project results in their local communities until the end of the project. With this project, we achieved what we wanted, namely to improve the critical thinking competencies of 40 young participants from 5 countries, raise their awareness about the benefits of critical thinking and the fields it may be used in, and facilitate a safe non-formal learning context where participants could share their thoughts and brainstorm dissemination ideas of project results in their local communities.
