Objectives

Discrimination, unemployment, illiteracy and reduced social assistance in disadvantaged communities, especially in the Roma communities in which our association operates, contribute to the precarious situation of the members of these communities. Through our project we offered an alternative proposed by the young people from the communities we work with, which on the one hand made recycling more attractive and reduces the amount of waste in disadvantaged communities and, on the other hand becomes an extra tool in the fight against economic problems because it can become an alternative source of income. Crafts are a practical and useful way to develop creativity and entrepreneurship, increase self-esteem and help in the fight against discrimination and social exclusion. That is why we involved young Roma and non-Roma who were interested in this topic and we teach them how they can recycle, through art and design, in a fun way, reusable materials into useful articles or even real works of art. In disadvantaged communities the importance of recycling is not so well understood and this is what we showed them directly, with the help of international groups of young people who, through recycled art made this activity more attractive and did also show the different ways of using recycled materials. The objectives of our project were: O1 Improving the knowledge of the 36 young participants about the recycling process and the introduction of new recycling methods during this youth exchange. O2 Increasing the level of responsibility of the 36 young participants in this exchange regarding recycling and its importance; O3 Development of skills, crafts and entrepreneurship, of the 36 young participants in this exchange, both during the exchange and after its completion.
