Traditional folk costumes represent the reflection of a nation, in other words, its identity, being a part of its history, as Nicolae Iorga said “A people who don't know its history is like a child who doesn’t know his parents”. Adopting and promoting folk clothing and keeping this culture alive make young people step into the future with cultural values and principles. During the time, the folk costume has been influenced by historical, political and geographical context, being nowadays a valuable resource for those who want to better understand the past of their country. In addition to this, there are a lot of similarities and differences regarding the patterns, the composition, the colors used which are key factors to bring us together in a European community, united by diversity. According to Eurostat survey about the youth interest and participation in cultural events, 47.5% of youth between 16 and 24 years old have visited at least once in 12 months showed interest and participated in cultural events. In addition, after carrying a local research in Curtea de Arges, Romania, we found out that 41.7% of youth respondents show general interest in folk costumes and 75% of them claimed that there is a lack of events of promoting the national folk costumes. Having understood the dimension of the need in our community, we want to bring a change in attitude toward folk costume, to promote it and raise the level of information about it in the European context. Our aim of is to raise awareness among youth about the historical and cultural importance of folk costumes as part of the national and European cultural heritage and to discourage the practice of commercializing copied traditional clothes without giving credit back. The objectives are the following: O1.
