The democratic societies of the European Union depend on the ability of citizens, especially of young people to access a variety of verifiable information, to form a view on different issues that affects not only their community, but also national and international communities. As a result they can participate in an informed way in public debates and express their will through free and fair political processes. These democratic processes are increasingly challenged by a large-scale, and systematic spreading of fake news, cyber attacks, that were so numerous during de covid-19 pandemic context. Young people with high levels of media literacy have a better understanding of the EU, global problems that affect them, adopt a position, make their own conclusions, discerns truth from fake news. On the other hand, young people with low levels of media literacy are vulnerable in front of extremist narattives, are affected, impressed, and have conflict in understanding political events. These are the main reasons that lead the project consortium to support young people in developing „Look closer” project and meet their need to increase levels of media literacy. The aim of our project was to increase media literacy skills among young people empowering them to become more engaged in society increasing the level of participation in democratic life and decision making process at all levels. The project objectives were: - to promote media literacy education and its benefits among young people; - to develop necessary media literacy skills of young people in evaluating critically media contents, information, political and social events; - to increase young people interest in being more engaged in the society participating actively at local, national and european democratic life, decision making process; - to raise awareness directly of minimum 250 young people from participating communities on the importance of media literacy for youth democratic participation.
