The idea of the project started from concrete facts identified by young people from the partner organizations: • The majority of young people in the European Union have a very unhealthy lifestyle, which puts their lives in danger; • The data collected by HWO in 2018 show that 9 out of 10 young people had at least one unhealthy style; • Those who smoke, drink more than 14 units of alcohol, eat less than five servings of fruits and vegetables, are obese or have low rates of physical activity • Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption have been proven to reduce work and education productivity (Alcohol and the workplace in the European Union: An exploration. Quest for Quality, 2005.) • Obesity and low rates of physical activity are another aspect that can reduce the well-being of young people • The studies carried out by "Life Science" explain the fact that physical exercises increase your life expectancy and also reduce depression and anxiety. • Covid-19 has also affected the health of young people in a negative way, by increasing the use of drugs and alcohol, consuming an unhealthy diet due to limited resources and boredom, as well as increasing depression leading to low activity levels (The Health Foundation, 2020) - deadly for obese people due to a weaker immune system. Each partner identified the problems in the local community or among their volunteers • Greece - poor nutrition and smoking make one of their participants feel very ill during a project in which an ambulance had to be called; • Lithuania - one of their participants could not participate in some activities due to poor physical health; • Turkey - during a project, one of the participants arrives with breathing problems due to smoking; Investing in youth is essential for their growth as the next generation that will have an impact on the future of the developing European Union. We decided to make a questionnaire to find out the needs of our potential participants. The questionnaire included 10 questions and 100 young people participated 1. Pax needs • 82 out of 100 young people smoke daily and do not know how to quit; • Only 36 young people regularly go to the gym or practice a sport - where the rest of the young people are not sure how to start; • young people had poor knowledge about healthy eating and physical exercises; • Over 90% of young people want to learn more about having/living a healthy lifestyle. 2. Partner needs: • Low visibility and their need to help participants with limited opportunities; • Promoting a healthier lifestyle in local communities; 3. The needs of the local community: • The need is to involve local authorities, schools and relevant stakeholders and to offer help to achieve the best activities; • The need to involve the local youth during the activities. As one of E+'s goals is to promote a healthy life, this youth exchange aimed to show the benefits of a more sustainable lifestyle through daily outdoor exercises such as walking, nutritional education and the promotion of respect and tolerance in society. Taking into account the current situation in the EU because the WHO confirms that young people in the EU have low rates of physical activity, face poor mental health and low self-esteem, The objectives of the project were: • Increasing the degree of awareness regarding nutrition and healthy lifestyle by increasing daily exercises, nutritious diet and eating habits by 75-80% in 30 young people aged between 18-30 years (of which 8 young people with difficulties financial) from partner countries using non-formal education methods focused on understanding the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. This objective was achieved through activities such as: Workshop "What is Sport and Society's Bad Health Habits in Participating Countries and the European Union" and Discussing Nutrition and a Healthy Balanced Diet • We encouraged new healthy habits and to change unhealthy behaviors such as smoking, drug use and alcohol consumption by 75-80% among 30 young participants aged between 18-30 years from partner countries by participating in non- formal. activities focused on overcoming unhealthy habits. This objective was achieved through activities such as: Workshop: "A Better Future" and Examples of motivational videos • Promoting the participation of young people from local communities in non-formal education, to acquire the necessary skills to adapt to a constantly changing environment, while encouraging different learning activities, such as outdoor activities. This objective was achieved through: Activities such as: "Be FREE" Discussing Unhealthy Addictions, Strategy of dissemination and Reflection groups and evaluation time.
