Objectives

In order to improve and develop the human race is dependent on resources that we find on this planet, and exploit them for our needs. As the number of people on Earth is increasing rapidly, our needs for all resources, including water and food are multiplying. We are aware that those resources are not abundant, but finite. On the other hand, we produce an enormous amount of waste which finishes in nature and later on in our food. The current take-make-dispose extractive model needs to be changed as soon as possible in order to preserve the resources for future generations. Continuing with “business as usual” could lead us to catastrophic outcomes, sooner than most people expect. Predictions given from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) researches find that by 2050 more than half of the population of the Earth will live in water-stressed areas. In order to solve those problems circular economy is introduced, a concept that tries to balance industrial development, human and environmental health, and economic growth by creating a closed-loop system that doesn’t allow creating waste and pollution in order to save existing resources and drive our impact on nature to zero. “Turn on the brain and do circular!” is a youth exchange that will take place in a small village Jazak located on the slopes of the National park Fruska Gora mountain in the north part of Serbia from 24.07-01.08.2021. In order to learn more about circular economy and find solutions for the prevention of waste generation and present it to their peers, 30 young people from 5 countries, North Macedonia, Romania, Croatia, Slovenia, and Serbia, will gather in CERUDA(Center for rural development and applied learning) and work their way toward mutually sustainable future. Objectives of this youth exchange are to: 1.Increase participants’ knowledge about the circular economy 2. Draw attention to prevention of waste as one of the tools for implementing circular economy 3. Motivate young people to make changes in everyday life by taking preventive measures in order to tackle waste generation 4. Help youth to become active citizens by sharpening their skills for critical thinking and motivating to share their experience with peers 5. Increase self-esteem, a sense of belonging, foreign language skills, public speaking, working in groups with mixed nationalities competencies by playing team building, ice breaking and name games 6. Familiarize participants with the opportunities Erasmus+ programme offers, especially Youth Exchanges, key learning competencies, and use of YouthPass, and to share what they learned with peers.
