The project "CAMP - Competencies of Affirmative Modern Perspectives" will take place from March to October 2021. 27 participants from the organizations "Children's Center", Serbia, "Institute for Youth Encouragement", Croatia, "Bosnian Representative Association for Valuable Opportunities ", Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Youth exchange will take place in the protected nature park Stara Planina (village Vrtovac). All activities are planned for participants aged 18-25. The main goal of our project is practical and experiential acquisition of competencies for lifelong learning of young people, through research, reflection and promotion of European values of cooperation, solidarity, social welfare, dignified work, ecology, in a way that includes marginal groups. The specific objectives of the project activities are: • to encourage participants to recognize and reflect on aspects of diversity and the impact of change (economic, political, demographic, transitional, environmental, etc.) on marginalized groups (women, children, disabled, unemployed, etc.) • to analyze causes, meaning, role, connection and impact of consequences of changes caused by human activity on local communities and possibilities of its development • understand the principles of building local and regional cooperation and solidarity in order to achieve social welfare, dignified work and environmental sustainability for all. Modern life of young people, under the influence of digital technology, has reduced direct contact among peers and almost completely cut off contact with nature. The Covid virus epidemic and the restrictive measures taken have further reduced social contacts among young people and made travel almost impossible. That is why we decided on the concept of unusual and innovative non-formal learning through the experience of young people in life and work in the camp, in nature, outdoors and through everyday interaction with the local environment. The camping experience is unique because it puts participants in life situations that no classroom can repeat. The exchange, which is based on a large number of different activities, all of which take place in nature, will satisfy the curiosity and need for adventure that all young people have. Participants are young people who come from different cultural backgrounds and face economic and social barriers, open to non-formal learning, innovation and challenges. During the exchange, they will cooperate with young people from other areas, using the methodology of work and exchange in the camp and through intergenerational cooperation with people from the local area. Exchanging young people in a similar situation and recognizing that there are the same / similar problems with others is important for overcoming feelings of isolation and rejection and represents an opportunity to create long-standing friendships of support. They will share the challenges and problems they face in everyday life, get to know each other's culture, and practically face the common life and work in the camp, strengthen their competencies for lifelong learning and active citizenship. Participants will "allow" new experiences to happen to them, reducing fears, controlling the situation, and making independent decisions. Our exchange is an opportunity to get to know another country and another culture in a more significant way and with more respect for the local population in relation to the traditional tourist tour. Through direct daily interaction with people from the local community, in the environment of the camp and nature, the activities enable participants to critically and affirmatively consider the future well-being of the local community and wider society. The concept of lifelong learning and sustainable development leads to one general goal - a society of sustainability, and it implies a learning society. The basic premise and goal of lifelong learning is the transfer of skills and knowledge to different areas of life. This is possible if education is rooted in life - in terms of relying on real needs, experience and the immediate social and natural environment. Our young participants will make important decisions for communities in the future. They will face questions for which there are no simple answers. In addition to knowledge and information, they will need practical skills. Through the implementation of activities during all phases of the exchange, through observation and analysis of problems from different aspects (own and other people's local community), they will be able to respond more successfully to new roles, taking into account the needs of different groups in their environment. They will develop tools for self-reflection and self-confidence, communication skills, responsibility for decisions made, tools for learning / action planning, critical thinking. The exchange cycle and personal insights will empower them to actively participate in the life of local communities.
