Objectives

PeaceWorks believes in positive social change through strengthening of local communities. Through this project, we have promoted international solidarity and social inclusion within and through democratic principles. Through the methods of experiential learning and interpersonal exchanges of knowledge and practices, we have aimed at improving the participating organisations’ capacity to collaborate for positive social change and solidarity and to subsequently adopt these new capacities in their direct work with youth. There are many organisations that are working for positive social change but few networks based on principles of critical thinking and intersectionality exist for these organisations. In addition, we often encounter youth workers that emphasise both the lack of such networks, and the necessity of them. Therefore, such capacity strengthening is needed not only for the exchange of tools, but also for the exchange of experiences and successes within the community. Hence, the objectives of the project were to: 1. Create a better understanding of the connection between local and global justice by connecting local work of youth workers to a global setting 2. Foster critical and intersectional perspectives on themes like power structures, injustice and democracy 3. Empower and increase participants capacity to actively work with systemic approaches 4. Increase employability within the civil society sector of the participants through the knowledge and tools acquired 5. Increase participants' ability to critically reflect upon themselves in relation to their target group 6. Increase knowledge around the definition of international solidarity and how to collaborate for social change internationally without reproducing uneven power structures 7. Create an international and longstanding solidarity network for youth workers 8. Increase capacity of the partners to spread systemic methods in their local contexts 9. Produce a creative toolbox based on systemic approaches that can easily be disseminated to the participants everyday work and local organisations This links to the Erasmus+ programme's objectives in that it enables for: - Deeper understanding of terms like democracy, social engagement and active citizenship - Increased quality of the participants work with young people, strengthening them as active citizens - Increased notion of international solidarity fostering the idea of a Europe without borders as well as good relationships with its partnering countries - Creating opportunities for professional and personal development Since one of the key objectives of this project was to create a stable and long standing network of intersectional and international solidarity, we have been conscious to include partners that work with different social issues, from different angles, that affect their target group. This was in order to create a holistic exchange of experiences for the participants that took part in the project, we also believe that this has enabled a stronger set of tools and methods that were included in the toolbox.
