Objectives

"Don't complicate it" wanted to gather participants, for a youth exchange, with or without disabilities in mixed groups from organisations in Spain, Italy, Turkey, Macedonia, Ireland and Sweden (Turkey and Macedonia could not attend due to Covid). Main goal of the project was to test and learn alternative ways of communicating your ideas and thoughts in a mixed group of people both with and without disabilities. Most workshops for the young are designed for people with no disabilities. We aimed to design the workshops in ways that would work well for everyone, including people with disabilities. The partnership would prepare workshops for the youth exchange that were based on the organisation's individual expertise. Caprifolen would have the main responsibility for making sure all of the workshops were manageable and rewarding for each participant with or without disability. At the end of the youth exchange there would be an open event for schools, municipalities, and organisations to take part in a performance created by the young participants. The performance goal was to raise awareness of the inequality that exists when it comes to the opportunity for people with disabilities to be a part of “normal activities” together with people with no disabilities. The project also wanted to empower participants with no disabilities to feel comfortable and confident to join in with a group made up of participants with disabilities. Likewise the participants with disabilities should feel comfortable both with the group and the task, that should be inspiring and appropriately challenging.
