Youth Exchange Newsroom Europa 1.2 took place in Portugal for eight days, from July 13-20, 2021, with a total of 27 participants, 2 facilitators and a project coordinator from two of the three countries originally involved in the project. Various activities with young people in the Novo mesto area have shown that despite the enormous amount of daily news, young people do not know or are not interested in the European Union, its composition, its functioning, its political bodies and institutions. Since these topics, as it turned out during the conversations with the young people, are not said and presented in an interesting or appropriate way, and because we wanted the young people to become active citizens not only in the participating countries but also in the EU, we wanted to achieve exactly that, that the young people show a greater interest in European Union issues and in general in current issues both in their home countries and elsewhere. The main topic of the youth exchange was current issues and the Presidency of the European Union. The goal was for the young people who participated in the youth exchange to report on current issues in an appropriate or interesting way. During the exchange, the participants became journalists, reporters who covered the Presidency of the European Union, current issues such as violence against women, the Covid pandemic and vaccinations, solidarity, populism, the Green Deal and much more. The main objectives achieved by the project were: - Acquisition of all necessary knowledge, competences and skills related to the topic of the youth exchange, i.e. the European Union, the EU Presidency and current (especially political) issues. - After the Youth Exchange, participants in pairs or individually created articles, quizzes, visuals, etc. that incorporated the knowledge acquired during the exchange. - Experience writing or producing a variety of creative materials on the European Union theme. - Through informal presentations, reflections, etc., young people had the opportunity to learn about different areas related to EU issues, had the opportunity to identify or improve creative writing and design skills, and present in a way that is interesting to young people the structure of the EU, its work, and issues such as racism, violence, populism, etc. - Long-term cooperation between the organizations was strengthened, as new ideas and projects for further cooperation between the partners of the Newsroom Europa 1.2 project began to develop during the exchange. - Development of a website where young people publish their articles, videos, pictures and all other materials created during the youth exchange. All materials are still available to anyone who wants to read them. However, we are glad that the project website will be active in the future, as the Ekonomska šola - Višja šola Novo mesto will use a page to publish their contributions in one of the subjects of the new generation of students, which in turn are connected with the youth exchange.
