Objectives

Nowadays, the modern man does not care what kind of food he eats, which is why food production in the home environment is becoming more and more important. The demand for locally produced, healthy and high-quality food is also increasing. Sufficient local production, processing and consumption of food is important above all for the order and processing of the countryside and the preservation of jobs in the countryside, the reduction of poverty and social inequality, the protection of the environment and the improvement of the health of the population due to the consumption of better-quality food. In a time of disrupted global supply, store closures and social distancing, the importance of local food producers has increased significantly. Self-sufficiency with local foods ensures national security during the period of emergency brought about by the coronavirus pandemic. Therefore, with all this, we wanted to make young people aware that it makes a lot of sense to encourage the local environment to take care of itself and thereby increase the quality of life of everyone involved in this process. From the point of view of sustainability, it makes sense to promote an integrated and organic method of vegetable production and the introduction of these crops and products into our everyday life. First of all, the main goal of our project was to inform young people about the importance of local self-sufficiency in modern society and within the framework of the European Union. The goal of our project was also to shed light on the issue of supply with the quality of locally produced food through the exchange and to present the concept of local food supply in connection with the concept of food quality. As the final goal of the project, we wanted to analyze and critically evaluate the supply of local food in Slovenia and in all participating countries, which we succeeded in doing through various discussions and activities during the youth exchange. The goals of the project were: to familiarize young people with the importance of local self-sufficiency; to motivate young people and encourage them to grow food locally; learn about the positive aspects of local self-sufficiency; get to know the local food offer of all participating partners; introduce the concept of local food supply in connection with the concept of food quality; shed light on the issue of supply with the quality of locally produced food; present quality locally produced food as a food that should become dominant in the future for a number of reasons; analyze and critically evaluate the supply of local food in Slovenia and in all participating countries; evaluate the national promotional campaign in the field of local food supply and determine what role the element of food quality plays in it; discuss food self-sufficiency within the European Union; consider other options for promoting local care that could potentially be successful. In addition to the goals that were related to the topic of our project, we also wanted to improve presentation, communication and linguistic skills, improve teamwork skills, coordination and division of work, improve the ability to assume responsibility and independence, and improve knowledge of foreign languages.
