Due to increasing migration flows, insufficient education about these processes and social distancing, we felt the need to face the challenging topic of integration in Europe. We wanted to focus on emotional awareness, as this helps create healthy relationships and increases empathy. In addition, we put a lot of emphasis on non-formal education methods, as we believe that it is essential how to present such tools to youth workers and educators. With this training, we wanted to update the competencies of youth workers, social workers and educators. In the course, we developed skills of movement, empathy and emotional awareness among youth workers, especially those who work with different groups of young people, because in this way they can work more effectively, creatively and with more empathy, i.e. with more awareness, active listening and acceptance. We focused on the use of movement, dance and improvisation practices in youth work. The aim of this course was to equip educators, social workers and youth workers with modern innovative methods, support them in their work and offer them better tools to work with people who suffer from isolation and rejection. The training focused on the aspect of relational communication and authentic interaction and included techniques inspired by dance and movement therapy, authentic movement, contact improvisation, mindfulness and improvisational theatre. Activities were selected and adapted to establish new patterns and mechanisms for empathic communication based on understanding needs, listening to our bodies and understanding feelings in order to create emotional bridges with the human landscape, our new communities.
