Objectives

Our idea of the project was to bring together a mixed group of local and international students from 5 different countries (Slovakia, Poland, Albania, Italy and Hungary) which are facing the issue of integration into the local community. We can definitely say that it was successful, not only because we managed to have those mixed groups, but also because we found out that even local people sometimes can feel themselves as an outsiders in their own country and they can experience this "layering" issue in their own society. We discovered the topic of integration and went even deeper - into belonging issue, which came up a very hot topic for the group, especially with the recent events happening in the world (money inflation, post-COVID circumstances, affection by the war). Even though we had only 5 days of activity, participants bonded very well, since all had similar topic to share and bring in. We managed to have a very multicultural group, since some participants were coming not only from non-EU countries, but also from a different backgrounds and religions. We had participants from Lebanon, Pakistan, Ukraine, Russia, Egypt. All of them are living in Europe now, but facing issues to integrate well to the local societies because of cultural differences and many more. It was fascinating to see how similar were the experiences of expats, and at the same time participants who live in their own country could also contribute to the issue by explaining why sometimes people are so closed and distant to foreigners. Our goal was to establish a well-working connection between local and international students in the partner countries of this Youth Exchange. We could see that activities we've planned worked well for achieving this goal, and this project helped our participants to see their situations from a different perspectives. To summarize, the objectives of our project were: 1) Create a stronger connection between local and international students in partner’s countries of this Youth Exchange; 2) Involve international students more into the life of local students’ community and vice versa; 3) Learn about possible activities, in which local and international students can be involved together; 4) Share good practices of integration based on experiences of different countries; 5) Familiarize participants of the project with cultures of different nations through multicultural evenings and by providing a space to express one’s own culture through their personal experience, avoiding pre-conceptions, stereotypes and judging; 6) Come up together with ideas of integration which can be implemented in the local communities back home to the countries of participants; 7) Make participants get involved into Erasmus plus program and encourage them to take actions in the future; 8) Empower youngsters to use new competencies gained during the Youth Exchange in their local communities by spreading outputs of the project (project video, press releases, photos, future local and international projects). Overall, we can see that all the objectives of the project had been accomplished, since participants gained awareness, new skills, became more flexible, and can bring back and utilize those knowledge in their everyday realities.
