Art for Happy People was an international cultural exchange that took place in 2022 in Banská Štiavnica. Even young people without previous experience with the Erasmus+ program could participate in the project. Participants from Slovakia, Belgium, Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Israel cooperated to break down barriers and build bridges between them. The main topics of discussion were concepts such as traditionalism, stereotypes, integration, regionality and identity. The idea of the project was that after the exchange, the participants would feel much more confident when working, cooperating and meeting people from different European countries, so that they would realize that regardless of nationality, they share the same values and principles. The aim of the workshops was to promote tolerance and respect. When creating the program, we focused on revealing the similarities between all European nations. We also talked about prejudices linked to cultural differences across the EU. Especially Turks, Bosnians and Israelis encounter this problem while traveling. Many people have prejudices and stereotypes against them, that they are thieves, come from poor backgrounds, have no hygienic habits, etc. We tried to talk a lot about how to break down barriers and make life a better place for every race and nationality. At the same time, the intercultural evenings greatly helped to get to know each other between the countries. People are often afraid of the unknown and have prejudices against it, but as soon as they get to know each other, they discover that they are actually all the same. When we designed the project, our main idea was to use art to improve intercultural dialogue and use it as a tool to prevent conflicts by strengthening respect for human rights, democracy and the rule of law. At the beginning, we clearly defined the goals of the project. The most important goals and objectives of the project were: 1. Using art as a means for intercultural education and dialogue between participants from different countries, with the aim of promoting mutual understanding and tolerance. 2. To broaden young people's understanding of different cultures, histories and religions. 3. Developing the creativity and involvement of young people in civic life by promoting Erasmus+ opportunities among them. 4. To bring together young people from different backgrounds, nations and cultures to exchange best practices, especially in the areas of intercultural dialogue, democratic management of social diversity and promotion of social cohesion. 5. Learn to respect your opinions and break down stereotypes through evaluation and discussion with young people from other countries. 6. To promote good neighborly relations between EU member states and non-EU states and to provide space for friendship and relations through art and culture.
