Objectives

The main activity of the project was an international training course for youth leaders and youth workers “Taking action against sexist hate speech”. Our aim was to raise awareness of youth leaders and youth workers about hate speech against women and LGBTIQ+ community in the EU. Many forms of hate speech are generally not recognized as such and youth workers do not know how to create safe space and gender-sensitive environments within their professional activities. On the contrary, sometimes they encourage hostile environment against girls/women and LGBTIQ+ by tolerating sexist jokes, stereotyped moralizations or organization of activities, they do not know how to effectively combat sexism/homophobia and transphobia within their environments. Therefore, we have focused on the following objectives: - to increase the youth workers' competencies to recognize hate speech against the particular groups, - to increase the youth workers' competencies in gender equality and deepen their gender sensitivity, - to acknowledge the dangers of sexist and homophobic hate speech for democratic values, - to understand the relationship between sexism/homophobia, hate speech and hate crimes against particular groups - to introduce the youth workers with tools to work on hate speech awareness-raising and human rights with youngsters and provide them with useful methods to eliminate this particular kind of violence, - to introduce the youth workers with various available tools how to combat hate speech (HRE, activism, legislation, creating alternative narratives), - to empower youth workers to stand up for human rights offline and online, - to share good practices of anti-hate speech actions in partner countries, - to create new initiatives on the local and international level to combat sexist/homophobic hate speech.
