Discharge of urban, domestic and industrial wastes directly or indirectly to the seas, unconsciously throwing garbage into the seas, agricultural wastes thrown into the rivers reaching the seas, unconscious tourism activities create pollution in our seas and negatively affect human life. Pollutions resulting from the discharge of wastes into the sea deteriorates the quality of use of the seas and reduces its value. When the waste rates and types of seas around the world are examined, it is seen that approximately 80 percent of the pollution is of terrestrial origin (packaging wastes, hazardous wastes, medical wastes, glass wastes, etc.). Today, the amount of waste in the oceans is approximately 140 million tons, and around 12 million tons of waste is added to this amount every year. Although Turkey does not have a coast to the oceans, it is among the top 20 countries that pollute the oceans the most due to the amount of waste it throws and the drift of waste. The cleanliness of the seas, environment, our country which is surrounded by the sea on three sides and the world has a great importance for our generations. Every year, 450 billion cubic meters of untreated or partially treated garbage and industrial and agricultural waste are dumped into the sea around the world. The sea is today used as a global dump for toxic chemicals and the world's largest trash can. Everything that goes to the sewer at home, in the office, in the factory eventually reaches the sea.
