Objectives

This project was borne out of discussions and feedback we gained from young people, organisations, participants of previous projects, research and direct experience. During 2017 and 2018 we were partners in the project "Game of Wellness”, where the issues of burnout, self-care & organisational responsibility of youth worker health were discussed & some solutions provided. One of our the people who developed the training, Zoe Reid attended the first edition and she identified that the basic knowledge of practical, evidence based methods, which young people can implement in their own lives to successfully manage wellbeing were missing from the training. We developed this training in response to that, and to the increase of symptoms of adverse mental health conditions in young people across Europe and beyond.
 Issues and Needs we addressed:
 The levels of Anxiety, Depression and Trauma are rising in society across Europe & beyond, especially in young people, and there is not a corresponding rise in methods to deal with this, especially in terms of anxiety management. The effects of this are felt across all demographics of young people, and particularly those with fewer opportunities. The refugee crisis has of course resulted in high numbers of young people suffering from symptoms related to trauma. Youth Workers, Teachers, Social Workers are often the first line of response to this issue and they need to be trained in the competences to be both effective with the young people they work with, and to ensure they are taking care of themselves. Our main aim was to develop the competences of youth workers, teachers and social workers to support young people to manage their mental health and wellbeing and develop resilience.

 To reach this aim we had the following objectives:

 - To equip participants with the knowledge and tools to empower young people to make positive changes in their lives to increase their mental health & wellbeing; - To provide youth workers with a baseline understanding of anxiety & trauma;

 - To explore scientifically proven approaches and methodologies to improve mental health & wellbeing;

 - To equip participants with the tools to train young people in anxiety management & sleep hygiene;

 - To explore the participants’ target groups and develop suitable action & session plans for implementation of the learning outcomes from the training;

 - To share best practices and increase the quality of youth work in Europe.
This project linked to the overall Erasmus+ objectives:
 - boost skills and employability
 - modernise education, training and youth work
 - focus on young people. Erasmus+ Youth Objectives And to the objectives focusing on youth:
 - improve the level of key competences and skills of young people, including those with fewer opportunities... promote... social inclusion.
 - foster quality improvements in youth work, in particular through enhanced cooperation between organisations in the youth field and/or other stakeholders;
 - enhance the international dimension of youth activities and enhance the capacity of youth workers and organisations in their support for young people... We were also informed by the three pillars of the EU Youth Strategy 2019-2017 - Engage, Connect, Empower. During the course, participants focused not only on exploring the inputs from the training team, but had ample opportunity to share their own practice & explore how to apply the learning in their local contexts.
