The partner organisations experienced that marginalized young diaspora can feel hesitant to express the social pressure, stress, and dilemmas they are faced with, which highlights the need to build their confidence and self-esteem, in addition to helping them foster a sense of active citizenship. The organizations involved in this project recognized a need to give their youth workers the opportunity to gain the necessary competence for working specifically with young diaspora in Europe who are at risk of being marginalized from society or have reached this stage already. The aim of the project was thus to develop youth workers’ capacity in supporting culturally marginalized young diaspora in Europe to embrace and engage their transcultural identity and civil citizenship. The aim has been addressed through the following objectives: 1) Support youth workers’ understanding of migration and integration. 2) Strengthen youth workers understanding of culture, identity, and citizenship. 3) Support youth workers’ deepened understanding of cultural marginalization and the challenges culturally marginalized young people can face. 4) Introduce youth workers to best practices in fostering young diaspora’s transcultural identity and active citizenship. 5) Strengthen youth worker’s non-formal education toolbox for working with culture, identity, and citizenship education. 6) Support youth workers in developing their own non-formal learning methodology that fosters transcultural identity and active citizenship amongst young diaspora in Europe. 7) Support youth workers in developing partnerships and strategies in fostering young diaspora’s transcultural identity and active citizenship. The objectives were addressed through two activities, a study visit sharing best practices in supporting the transnational integration of diaspora and a training course giving youth workers of tools and methods in culture, identity, and citizenship education.
