Objectives

Climate change is becoming a major problem worldwide and one of the most debated topics in the last decade. In general, the whole planet is getting warmer with data that are increasingly alarming and also at the political level it is a highly discussed topic and without a precise directive. UK was and still located in a hot context and is expected to experience significant temperature increases and a drop in rain levels with consequently serious negative effects of climate change in various sectors. Climate change is perceived differently according to the different world contexts but everywhere with important implications, especially in Africa, where desertification is the biggest environmental issues. Despite all these differences, climate change is a global challenge that has no borders and requires coordinated work by all countries to be thwarted. This was why this YE brought together young people from Europe and Africa to collaborate and made them aware about problems and applicable solutions to fight global warming and desertification through the application of small- and large-scale measures that helped to slow down climate change. The project took place in Tunisia, where desertification was the biggest environmental issues. The Sahara Desert is spreading, villages and arable lands are being transformed into vast poor areas. This, not only have a bad impact on cultivation but also on other important aspects because unbalanced land use in different climate zones creates more areas with depleted soil useless for agriculture which consequently creates more negative social, economic and climate changes. There was, therefore, the need to find practical solutions, inform about preventive and symbiotic actions and aware the participants how to face the problem, but also increased awareness in European countries and more generally around the world. Although desertification is a problem that affects a few countries, we understood that it was actually a global problem and we had to all act as one to deal with these problems and reversed the climate changes. The project was born in response to these needs; in fact, we strongly believed that brought together ideas and experiences from different contexts and cultures helped to understand the problem from a global point of view and contributed to fulfilling our objectives. The overall objective of this youth exchange was to emphasize the relevance and to increase awareness of climate change and desertification issues by motivating young people to introduce and share sustainable practices. Participants had already expressed the need to gain the knowledge and practiced regarding the topic of desertification and climate change and the willingness of getting involved to make their own contribution. So, in line with the new priorities identified by the Erasmus+ Programme, the specific objectives were divided into 3 main perspectives (personal, collective and practical level) and are the following: - to raised awareness, stimulated the reflection/sharing of ideas and encouraged the debate about the problem of desertification and climate change by promoting activities aimed at acquiring knowledge and living a unique experience on the field. - To encouraged young people to act locally combating desertification and climate change and to empower them to act as agents of change for environmental and sustainable development, experiencing, promoting and putting into practice the acquired knowledge and skills both at local and origin context level through at least 4 different concrete actions (3 during the activity week and at least 1 during the dissemination phase). - To realized at least 2 concrete action during the week of activities related to climate change and desertification topics; in particular, the promotion/publication of a set of good practice and techniques to effectively recycle and reuse our resources in daily life and the creation of online awareness campaigns to raise awareness of the people about environmental issues. “Together we can change the world” with the activities outlined were strictly connected with the 2020 EU priorities; the European Commission had decided to focus its resources on the priorities that matter to citizens and “protecting the environment and tackling climate change” appears as the most urgent.
