Objectives

The idea of the EC(H)O GREEN-LAND project came as a result of the identification by our volunteers of concrete problems related to the protection of the environment, present in different degrees in all the communities part of the project and also in the area in which it took place. Here are some examples for a better understanding of the context: -Lack of basic education among young people regarding selective recycling and waste storage; -Pollution of the environment by throwing bags and plastic containers; -Abandonment or storage in precarious conditions of waste with destructive potential against nature, such as batteries, refrigerators and old TVs, old paint, etc; -Poor coordination between local authorities and civil organizations for the creation of an action plan for environmental protection; -Lack of examples of actions taken by civil organizations to reduce pollution. Being attached to the spirit of active European citizenship and promoting European values, EC(H)O GREEN-LAND emphasized the importance of good practice for raising awareness of the need for environmental protection in rural areas with the help of the young participants who created an interactive campaign through non-formal methods and made concrete actions to reduce the negative impact of man on the local environment, in the communities involved in the project. At the same time, a relationship was established between the participants in the exchange, the locals from the implementation area of this youth exchange (Kangerlussuaq), and the other communities involved where more actions, physical and virtual, were performed. The objectives thus stated correspond to the initial ones and were achieved through coherent planning in all phases of the project, as following: -Development of an eco-friendly attitude for the 32 persons (24 young people and 8 group leaders), and the exchange of ideas, opinions and experiences for discovering good practices in the ecology field; -The group of young people, during the 11 days of activities, developed mutual understanding, tolerance and enhanced their team work abilities. They were taught various non-formal education methods and also were able to successfully design, organize and get feedback for their own workshops related to the topic; a total of 6 such workshops were performed (2 for each country); -The young people, with assistance from team leaders and their organizations, created 3 promotional clips to raise awareness about nature protection in general and the fragility of the unique eco-system of Greenland in particular, and the necessity for taking action to protect it. Additionally, more video materials (clips, vlogs, reels) were created and distributed by members of the group, on their own. -During the activities in Greenland, the group had an impact on the local environment, through 2 events that promote care for the natural environment: the visit to Point 660 on the Ice Cap and Russel Glacier (understanding the reality of global warming and the melting of icecap and glaciers), and the greening at Lake Fergusson. Furthermore, through the study visits made at the local community in Kangerlussuaq (school, museum, municipality) the group could understand better the mentality of local people and unique features if the Innuit culture; -The project promoted bridging between young people from Denmark and young people living in Greenland, being together as one team and learning from each other; -The project generated a promotional campaign during the follow-up period, with various online and physical activities meant to promote ecology in all communities involved; -UYED organization started a network of collaboration with the other two partners, plus other entities.
