Objectives

79.5 million people have been displaced worldwide by conflict and persecution, leaving millions of people stateless. Among them, approximately 26 million are under the age of 18. The European Union received asylum requests from 612,700 refugees in 2019 alone. Turkey hosting nearly 4 million refugees and asylum seekers continues to host the largest refugee population in the world. This migration movement, which has increased in recent years, causes extreme nationalism in some countries and xenophobia in others, and causes polarization between people and hostile attitudes towards refugees. In these times when racist attacks against refugees increase, necessary humanitarian aid cannot be provided to refugees and countries continue to draw walls on their borders, our general goal is; to increase the competence of young people and their motivation to be involved in the solution of the problem in order to facilitate the integration of refugees and immigrants into social life. In this context, our project brought together representatives of institutions and organizations who want to work in this field in Europe and encourage young people who became aware of refugees to work on the subject. As stated in the Council Decision of 27 November 2009 of the European framework for cooperation in the youth field; '' Young women and men play a very important role in overcoming the socio-economic, demographic, cultural, environmental and technological challenges that the European Union and its citizens are facing today and in the coming years, and in taking advantage of the opportunities. '' In this framework, our focal point in our project has been young people, as we believe that young people shape the future of their country so we can create awareness in society thanks to young people. On the other hand, in this project, we planned to increase the mobility of volunteering and solidarity among young people by including refugee youth who have fewer opportunities. We believe that we contributed to the realization of the three main actions of the EU Youth Strategy through the activities we have prepared for young people in our project: To enable young people from different backgrounds to contribute to EU policy decisions (engage), to increase the participation of those with fewer opportunities in cross-border learning mobility through Erasmus + programs (connect) and to encourage their involvement in the solidarity process (empower). In this direction, our objectives in the project were: 1- To teach the concepts of refugee, immigrant and asylum seeker to young people 2- To raise awareness of young people and local people that differences are rich by showing different cultural elements. 3- To enable young people to empathize so that they understand the challenges that refugees face. 4-To introduce good practices for refugees to young people 5- To offer suggestions for solving the problems of refugees
