The primary goal of our project, "Inner Pathways toward a regenerative future: Mindful Activism in Youth Work," was to empower youth workers, youth leaders, and educators with the necessary methodology, skills, knowledge, and attitudes to effectively guide and support young active citizens. Our aim was to equip them to lead themselves and their communities in a resilient, empowered, and mindful manner in response to current environmental, social, and systemic challenges both in Europe and globally. This project evolved directly from the Erasmus+ strategic partnership KA2 project "Inner Pathways toward Sustainability" (www.innerpathways.eu). Collaborating with partner organizations, we developed an approach focused on balancing self-care and action in individuals and fostering mutual care within group dynamics. The Inner Pathways approach addresses the growing demand for mindful activism among young people, having already demonstrated its significant positive impact. There is an evident need for increased knowledge and innovative tools for designing sustainable, socially responsible, and systemic actions for nonviolent change. Aligned with the three pillars of the European Youth Strategy 2019-2027—Engage, Connect, Empower—and specifically targeting European Youth Goals Nos. 11 ("A Sustainable and Green Europe") and 5 ("Mental Health and Wellbeing"), our project aimed to enhance the personal and professional leadership capacities of youth workers, leaders, and educators. We sought to prepare them to support and guide individuals in taking active and responsible roles in addressing current environmental, social, and personal level challenges. Our specific project objectives were as follows: - Provide youth workers, leaders, and educators with a learning environment that fosters an understanding of the current global crisis and local challenges. This environment encouraged self-reflection to help participants identify their motivations to take action. - Equip participants with innovative tools and approaches from the Inner Pathways framework, including Mindful Activism and Regenerative Cultures. These tools were designed to enhance resilience and mindfulness, promoting more sustainable engagement and active participation. - Offer guidance on how to support young people in designing innovative actions related to environmental, social, and systemic change. - Enhance comprehension of strategies for personal self-care and community well-being maintenance. - Empower participants to become active and confident facilitators within their activist youth groups. Strengthening leadership capacities and providing relevant group-based co-creation methods were central to achieving this objective. - Establish international support networks, inspiring and motivating youth workers, leaders, and educators to continue guiding and supporting young people within their respective groups. In summary, our project's overarching objective was to prepare youth workers, youth leaders, and educators to address the pressing challenges of our time through mindful activism and empowered leadership. We aimed to equip them with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to support young people in becoming active, responsible, and resilient agents of change in their communities and beyond.
