Objectives

Objectives of this project were: • To support understanding of the concept of emotional intelligence and its importance for the success of activities and projects including young people with different cultural backgrounds • To provide space for reflection about own emotional intelligence competences and those of young people participants work with • to provide platform for sharing experience regarding the implementation of emotional intelligence in intercultural projects • to analyze step-by-step each of the components of emotional intelligence, support its understanding and provide tools and methods for development of competences within its frame related to self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, motivation and social skills • To empower and support participants for implementation of emotional intelligence in daily work by developing specific follow-up action plans By implementing this project, we wanted to achieve following: • To increase the awareness about relevance of EI in youth work, especially in multicultural surrounding Raising the awareness about importance of EI in every field and in work with people in general, especially in youth work has become increasingly important. This is even more important considering its international and multicultural context. By working on this topic, we wanted project partners to give a lot more attention to EI in their daily work but also to increase the awareness about it among all the other organizations that heard about our project through social media and other dissemination channels. The most important thing is to raise the awareness of youth workers, coordinators and mentors about importance of supporting and implementing EI competences in multicultural surrounding. • To equip participants with competences related to EI in order to increase the capacities of the partner organizations The reason to write this project was identified lack of competences of youth workers, mentors, coordinators related to EI in general in youth work field, but especially in the work at international level i.e. in multicultural surrounding where EI is even more relevant. By careful planning of the topics covered by the training, based on expressed needs of participants and partner organizations, participants had a chance to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes related to EI to be able to implement it in their organizations. This training helps them to increase their own EQ and apply it in their work but also to help to their young people to increase their EQ as well. • To advance work of partner organizations and ensure better support for young people they work with All the organizations involved in this project are active within Erasmus+ and European solidarity corps programs or other international programs and participants of this project were those who work with those volunteers. Additionally, all the organizations are based and active in big cities where multiculturality is more present even without international projects. Competences and experience they gained during this project will help them and their organizations to increase the quality of their activities, projects and experience for their young people by applying what they learned and giving more attention to EI in their future work. • To provide specific tools and methods focused on EI that can be used in every day’s work Next to raising awareness and providing theoretical insight into EI, participants had a chance to get and share different tools and methods which can support learning about EQ and implementing it with the specific target group, covering specific topic i.e. components of EI such as motivation, communication, conflict management, self-awareness etc. Tools and methods were shared in practical part of the program, mostly every day in the afternoon. • To support better understanding of participant’s own emotions and emotions of other people and how to manage them which will contribute to growing self-confidence and job satisfaction Emotions are something that is usually unwanted in any work we do because it is considered that emotions distract focus and productivity. However, working with human beings, especially young people in complex situations such as multicultural surrounding cannot exclude focus on emotions because that might bring a lot of problems and result in potential failure of the whole project. Finally, if we, as youth workers or coordinators, are not aware of our emotions or know how to control them, this will not only negatively impact us but also our co-workers and young people we work with. This project was focused on equipping participants with everything needed to understand themselves and emotions of people around them better which will contribute to overall satisfaction of everyone involved in any project.
