Objectives

This youth exchange was a response to the growing intolerance, discontinuity, hatred towards refugees in Europe, but also to fake news, propaganda and the emerging negative connotations and narratives related to refugees. The beginning of 2020 was also marked by a new dimension of the crisis - President Erdogan opened the borders of Turkey and thousands of refugees flocked to the borders with Greece and Bulgaria, encountering huge resistance and thus that was alsoe one of the things that provoked the project team to develop the project idea. . This also led to new tension and accordingly fueling hatred of refugees online. Social networks have once again become a platform for fueling hatred and intolerance towards refugees. Moreoer, 2022 brought even bigge refugee crisis after the Russian invasion in Ukraine that caused millions people to flee across Europe. Young people, as the main users of these networks, one more time witnessed this growing hatred, unfortunately they were even drawn into this propaganda in many countires in the mid of the refugee crisis outbreak/for example there were protests in some countries against hosting Ukraninan refugees, violence and even hate crimes. Thus, the project became even more relevant for participants and more impactful. Unfortunately the internet and the media are one of the few places where most young people get information and very often they are however manipulated by various types of propaganda. The project aimed to give a platform for young people to learn, an opportunity to discuss important social issues in a safe environment, to share their opinions, to study the situations in different countries. What our team aimed at was to enable young people to learn more about migration as a process, to discuss its its benefits, to break some stereotypes and connotations related to refugees, to raise awareness of hate speech as a problem and as a violation of human rights, developing empathy, solidarity and tolerance towards the refugees. Main objectives of the project were: -raising awareness on migration processes and awareness of its benefits for Europe -promoting continuity and understanding of young people towards refugees and migrants -raising awareness on hate speech as a problem and violation of human rights and awareness of the serious consequences and crimes it can lead to -presenting channels for reporting hate speech, informing and encouraging young people to effectively fight against hate speech towards refugees in a peaceful way - promotion of tolerance, mutual understanding, solidarity and intercultural dialogue
