Objectives

"Save the Culture" took place in the frame of the Erasmus Plus Programme which aimed to create opportunities for participants from UK, Finland, Macedonia, Sweden, Denmark, Czech Republic, Spain and Turkey, to learn and share information about their culture. The project took place in Canakkale, Turkey from 08.10-15.10.2021 (including travel dates). During the 8 days of the project program, the participants gained the practical skills to teach other young people about the common ground that all different cultures have. On the other hand, they have learnt to see the cultural differences as a treasure of humanity. They were also actively participated in activities allowed them to focus on explaining how cultural forms, traditions or cultural expressions we have nowadays as the result of cultural interaction and cultural mixing in the past, in order to experience something new. In this way, we strengthened their knowledge about how the present society has been formed, based on the past. We believed this was very important for youth workers, youth leaders and youngsters who work in intercultural environments and sometimes need to deal with xenophobic or racist behaviours. In this project, we succeeded to help the participants gain these skills and become themselves carriers of such mentality in a tolerant and open society that appreciate its culture. Another milestone achieved in this project was that we created materials to disseminate the message of the project regarding multiculturalism and tolerance. These materials were published on social media platforms of the partners and participants and become accessible to everyone who would like to spread our message or to use these materials. Also, the participants were encouraged to disseminate the results in their own communities (local, schools, relatives and families, etc.), and to spread the values of respect, tolerance and appreciation of other cultures. "Save the Culture" was an opportunity for young people to learn other cultures with alternative ways and methods that they can use while training such as the above groups. The idea was to learn how to intergrade the other cultures into their culture in a sustainable and interactive way. At the same time, the activities will highlight the talents and particularities of the trainees of the program and they will be able to express themselves freely. The activities of the project included games, interaction, roleplaying games, drama, alternative learning methods, making toys and use them as didactic tools, games requiring simple materials, etc. These activities were used as tools by the participants, together with dialogue and discussion with vulnerable social groups, in order to take actions that will contribute to the smooth socialization of these sensitive groups. The overall aim of the project was for the participants to be trained properly, to learn the customs of other countries, to learn the habits of people from other countries to recognize the similarities and differences between cultures and to learn the commonly accepted behavior patterns. Finally, the participants learnt ways to incorporate and embrace culture, history and politics of other places and ways to monitor and diagnose needs in order to ensure the mutual co-existence of other cultures.
