The emerging concerns related to extremism and radicalisation leading to violence have highlighted the need to work with young people in order to identify and address the root causes of extremism and prevent their radicalisation, as well as strengthen young people’s resilience, prevent marginalisation, promote equality, emphasise alternatives and reinforce the cohesion of communities in which they live. Radicalisation leading to violence of young people has an impact on their wellbeing, as well as on the wellbeing and stability of their communities and the entire world, as it challenges the democratic values of society. The threat of this type of radicalisation needs to be recognised and prevented through early interventions, which can help increase young people’s resilience to extremism and the use of violence. Therefore, with this project the partners were empowering young people to practice new and creative forms of radicalisation prevention as a way to acquire skills on peace and non-violence, improving the community at the same time. The project aimed at promotion of peer-to-peer education as an effective way to contribute to elimination of radicalisation among young people, providing participants with new practical life skills on peaceful and non-violent conflict resolution. The project had the following objectives: - to define how peer-to-peer education can do to prevent radicalisation; - to help young people with acquisition of skills needed for prevention of radicalisation; - to enable young people find resources and possibilities to acquire and strengthen new competences of for prevention of radicalisation among their peers; - to acquaint the young participants with peace education; - to acquire skills in conflict management; - to share experience in prevention of radicalisation among all interested parties; - to improve peer group and organisation relationships; - to find tools that can help young people deal with conflictual and stereotypical behaviour among their peers. The planned activities were designed to encourage and promote young people's motivation for peer-to-peer communication as an effective way to contribute to prevention of radicalisation among young people, reducing inter-ethnic tensions and providing participants with new practical life skills on peace and non-violent behaviour. The project promoted peace building, tolerance, conflict resolution, responsibility, innovation and a sense of community among the youth across Europe.
