Ecological challenges require the attention of the younger generation today and in the coming years. And the young people are ready to turn their attention to these issues. Young people indeed have a knack for invention and the development of new effective responses to global issues, and our partnership, with its experience of working with young people on the environmental issues, gladly welcomed young people's initiative to draw up this project that focuses on the issues of environmental volunteering and ecologically-friendly behaviour. The concept of this project was discussed by the young people that participated in previous youth projects aimed at studying ecological problems in European countries and volunteering possibilities for young people. As a result of these activities and being inspired by Greta Thunberg's (Time magazine's Person of the Year in 2019) example that demonstrated that young people's voices can be heard, they understood that they could make a change and spread the idea of ecological volunteering and acquisition of the so-called "green" skills in the partner European communities the participants come from. They understood that they have a chance to influence the future of the planet's environment. Bucharest was selected as the venue for the Youth Exchange as there is a very strong need in the city to raise environmental awareness issues. A BBC news report entitled, "Why Romania is importing waste from abroad" explains the urgent need for this project at this time. The news report can be found on this link: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/science-environment-50046119. Also, our Romanian partner organisation has the necessary experience, resources and contacts to implement the project to budget in a professional way meeting all of the requirements and expectations of an Erasmus+ Youth Mobility project. The project objectives were to: - make the participants’ aware of the roots of environmental neglection and related problems; - show young people the significance of youth initiatives in environmental solutions; - promote green skills development; - know more about optimal methods and ways of controlling actions that may harm the environment; - find means of fostering interest concerning environmental problems in young people and empowering youth organisations to deal with them; - stimulate the creativity and volunteering in the green sector through non-formal education; - share best practices, the capacities of developing and implementing international youth projects; - compare how environmental policies differ according to country. Through non-formal education, participants focused on mutual understanding of their culture and they reflected on environment-related challenges and the common issues we share on this theme.
