Communication is one of the biggest and most important conveniences provided by the mass media today. Fibre internet, smartphones, a thousand different kinds of android applications and hundreds of programs are the indispensables of our lives which reduce the distance to a single click. These mass media, which make people's lives easier, have led to the creation of individuals who are not social and who are alienated from themselves and society and who are deprived of communication skills. Social media is a one-way communication tool. In a study conducted on 200 students in the United States, the use of the internet has caused difficulties in young people to have interpersonal relations. It has been revealed that young people who spend a lot of time on the Internet have become increasingly isolated and have difficulty in face-to face relations. In addition, according to the Social Networking Sites Investigation in 2013, it was discovered that social networking sites damaged the structure of the families and social texture. Many people who cannot come face to face and talk can comfortably talk on the internet without worry, but they have difficulty in determining the boundary of the relationship. As a result of the two researches, social networking sites increase the written communication established via the internet, however, we see that people’s oral communication skills and their real relationships are harmed. Social media, which makes it easy to reach people easily and causes addiction in people with the motivation of curiosity, prevents people from experiencing the moment and reduces the relationships they have with their loved ones. Although people who have difficulty in communicating with people face-to-face can communicate through social media, we can say that this reduces the self-confidence of people. Another issue that needs to be addressed in communication is physical barriers. When we talk to someone, if they are avoiding eye contact, this may give us a feeling of insecurity or not being listened to. Thus, people feel uncomfortable and avoid the interaction. In addition to eye contact, body language and facial expressions are of great importance in communicating correctly. Gestures and facial expressions help us to express our feelings and thoughts. However, excessive use of these gestures can create discomfort and affect communication negatively. People have developed different cognitive processes and perceptions in different environments. This situation may cause individuals to interpret messages wrongly and to act according to prejudices they have. Individuals belonging to different cultures also think in their communication with the perceptions of their culture and this may adversely affect communication. All these reasons cause communication problems amongst young people and this leads to serious problems in interpersonal relations. Factors such as different cultures, habitats, personal perceptions, differences in language and religion, age and gender are considered as obstacles to communication. The lack of communication caused by mass media, the lack of effective communication, the lack of empathy, and the negative impact on the development of personality causes a greater problem. As a result; according to our research and similar research results; bilateral communication skills, which are the basic necessities of human existence, have been transformed into one way communication with the effect of modern mass media. This situation leads to individual, social and even national and international problems. One of the factors that enable our young people to turn into active individuals is to have effective communication skills and to have agencies to keep up with the globalized world. The main reason that led us to write this project was to bring these skills to young people and to be a pioneer in becoming an active citizen. The overall objective of our project was to enable young people to improve their communication skills and to become compatible with social life and social environment. Our specific objectives: 1.To enable young people to gain concrete communication skills by providing them with concrete examples 2. To enable young people to gain the skill of empathy which is the basic element of communication. 3. To teach young people to be active listeners in the communication process 4. To raise awareness in young people about the barriers of communication. 5. To teach communication types based on culture in communication 6. To teach the ability to use body language in communication 7. To teach the correct use of mass media which adversely affect effective communication.
