"Devising Theatre" (DT) is an effective method of promoting opportunities for disadvantaged children and youth. It therefore also serves as a method for social justice. Devising Theatre is not so much an art form, but a way of working that can be used by youth workers who know little about theatre pedagogy. We have offered this training course to youth workers in order to strengthen their competences, so that they can expand the possibilities of children and young people and to strengthen their skills and competences, to facilitate their participation in the labor market, to promote the understanding of democracy and for democratic processes and to sharpen the view for the cultural diversity in the European Union and to experience this as an enrichment. The basic working methods of DT and therefore the goals of this training course were: - Collaboration: group-oriented, self-determined and division of tasks. -open dramaturgy: dramaturgical and aesthetic problems are negotiated and decided in the process of working together. -generative techniques: Starting point of the work are variable substances, materials and themes. -composition and multiperspectivity: interplay of different artistic media and forms of expression. -Reflexivity: reasoned and reflected decisions are made throughout the production process. -Production: the goal in DT is basically an artistic product and its presentation to an audience. -Performing play in general and therefore also DT allows the participants to experience themselves as self-determined and self-effective. This promotes the development of self-confidence and self-assurance. Decision-making processes in DT are democratic and consensus-oriented. This also leads to the practice of democratic decision-making processes, which are not about the lowest common denominator as a compromise, but about achieving the greatest possible satisfaction of all by seeking consensus. The advantage of this participatory teaching-learning method is that the young people, as participants in a DT process, are put in a position to question things and decide for themselves in which direction an action should be taken further. -Working with artistic methods and techniques always entails that the respective culture of origin plays a special role. A Europe-wide encounter therefor also contributes to strengthening the understanding of Europe and the European identity, which is expressed precisely in cultural diversity. -To promote this European identity and the awareness of its diversity, a "marketplace" is organized, where participants have the opportunity to present themselves, their organizations, but above all their cultural characteristics. - With this project, we want to teach methods that promote democratic competence, strengthen self-confidence and empowerment, and open up opportunities in the labor market. This also includes the use of English as the training language, because this leads to a strengthening of foreign language skills in linguistic expression and understanding and opens up more opportunities throughout Europe.
