We were different NGOs from different parts of Europe aiming to make a change in the migration issue in our countries. Most of our volunteers and staff members have migrant backgrounds and as migrants (especially refugees) are often in situations where they can be discriminated against and face difficulties to integrate into the society. Therefore it is very important to support them in order to engage them as active citizens and facilitate their inclusion in social, economic and cultural life. On the other hand, the project aimed to expand chances for other young people in difficult situations (unemployed, school drop outs etc.) who could take advantage of many opportunities especially by international programs such as Erasmus + or the ESC. The overall aim of the long term training course was to train youth workers, youth leaders being aware of positive (brain drain) and negative sides of migration and know how to deal with challenges resulting from migration and how to use opportunities in the society where they are currently living. Our participants are ready to develop projects connected to migration and mobility, engage young migrants in their activities and foster mobility among youth. They are also able to help to change the general image of migration in society and promote tolerance and positive attitude towards immigrants (and refugees in particular) in society. However with the project we tackled the following issues: - There is a tension in EU countries based on political approaches to migration and the project aimed to understand it better and give instruments to work on it further - The need to improve intercultural competences of youth workers towards refugees and immigrants in order to support young migrants and refugees to find their way into the local communities - Local young people need to understand the reasons why someone has to become asylum seeker or immigrants and stand against xenophobia, intolerance, fear from unknown; - Young refugees and migrants need support from countries of origin and host countries by youth workers, youth leaders through youth work activities in order to integrate successfully into the new local communities culturally, economically, socially, etc. - Youth and community-based organisations can play an important role in the integration process of young people with an immigration background by organising valuable social and professional activities
