Objectives

The main objective of the project was to analyse, explore and present possible needs-oriented learning space concepts for adult education as an impulse for the sustainable further development of Bildungshäuser in German-speaking countries. The aim was to raise awareness of changing customer needs. At the same time, the aim was NOT to present ready-made solutions, but to stimulate the following processes: - to open up thinking spaces in educational institutions for individual learners - to strengthen the innovative power in educational institutions - to generate courage for change among those responsible - to strengthen the orientation towards the needs of the learners - to establish possibilities of digital and hybrid learning in educational institutions - to find ways of running adult education economically - to promote and further develop the attitudes, competences and skills of staff members - with regard to the physical aspect: to give ideas and impulses for the adaptation of physical learning spaces/buildings/rooms and to stimulate the development of new learning space concepts. Hence, the development of adult education institutions towards future-oriented learning centers should be supported.

Background

How do educational institutions have to change in order to remain sustainable in terms of content and economy? Digitalisation and economisation of adult education are leading to changes in the learning behavior of people (self-organised, individual, informal, networked). Therefore, Bildungshäuser are confronted with new needs and demands of their clients and face the challenge of reflecting on their identity and raison d'être. They describe themselves as places of encounter and exchange and are challenged to renew their structures and concepts so that they remain so in the future. The design of needs-oriented learning spaces is a serious opportunity to create future-oriented, creative educational offers. The resulting competitiveness and quality in education are absolutely necessary for the future existence of a Bildungshaus. They must keep their finger on the pulse. The findings from this project should be an inspiration for Bildungshäuser to search for "different" learning spaces, concepts and opportunities for their organisation THEMSELVES and find the courage for further development. Note: A Bildungshaus is a general adult education institution with its own educational mission and a corresponding philosophy.
