Cultural heritageEuropean identity and valuesPreventing racism and discrimination

Objectives

With this project, we wanted to raise awareness of the cultural heritage of the concentration camps and offer more schools and teachers and students new opportunities to deal with the topics in class. The different experiences from the different countries and organisations should be brought together and new things should be developed. We wanted to make a contribution to the reappraisal of history and connect it with human rights today. It served as a basis in the fight against racism and discrimination and for a peaceful Europe of mutual respect. With the project, we wanted to strengthen the common European identity and expand the common values, civic engagement and participation through the exchange and joint development of the travelling exhibition and the educational materials. This has actually succeeded excellently.

Background

The 8 partner organisations from Austria, Italy and Poland have been confronted with increasing right-wing populism for years. The participating schools, municipalities, the museum and memorial organizations counteract this by coming to terms with Nazi history and establishing connections to the present time. In all three countries there is an increasing need to deal with Nazi issues and not all students are able to visit a memorial. With the travelling exhibition on the subject of forced labour and the associated educational materials of the brochure, the pedagogical guide and worksheets as well as 2 learning videos opens additional opportunities are available for schools. The materials were jointly developed and tested and are available online and in person for use.
