The implementation of this project had several objectives. - First of all, it was about discovering the island of Cyprus, better understanding its situation, at the heart of many geographical, political and geopolitical issues in the Eastern Mediterranean. We had a theoretical approach. The idea was to confront it with a field approach, by meeting the locals, discussing with them their experiences, their analyses of the Cypriot situation. - It was also a question of putting the students in a situation of research, of action, by meeting different people in Cyprus who could testify to the conflict situation or who are involved in the resolution of the conflict. It is an approach that fits perfectly with the school's pedagogy. - Finally, the project allowed for a collaboration between the two schools, our school Singelijn and the EFCN. Students from both schools exchanged and sometimes even worked together (interviews, translations). Our students were also able to discover another way of working in a school.
Our project takes part in a secondary school, the Singelijn Second'air school, in Brussels. It is a new school, created 6 years ago, and which, this year only, is finalized in its creation. It is a school with an active pedagogy, strongly inspired by the Decroly pedagogy. The project was developed last year, within the framework of the geography course, with the students of the 5th year. The objective was first of all simply to better understand what is at stake in the Eastern Mediterranean, by relying on a former colleague of the school, who now teaches at the Franco-Cypriot School of Nicosia. The students had to interview her about her experience, her analysis and her point of view of the Cypriot conflict. The idea then came to go further in this collaboration and to deepen our understanding of the situation on the island through a larger project. And so, together with the students, we set up the Erasmus+ project.
