Objectives

In implementing our project, we have set ourselves 4 main objectives: 1. To promote technical and technological professions. Our challenge is to show, during key events, what these professions offer, but also to give a voice to young ambassadors of the professions (the Belgian Team) whose professional excellence, success stories and commitment are inspiring. 2. Boost the career of each competitor by enabling them to acquire new technical, behavioural and transversal skills. Several studies and testimonies estimate the gain in professional and personal maturity to be 5 years. 3. To achieve good results at the EuroSkills Graz competition. We are aiming for medals because they give WorldSkills Belgium's competitions and actions greater visibility in the media and press, which are very interested in them. 4. To analyse and disseminate good practices between our Experts and those from different European countries. By offering the opportunity to our Experts (coaches) to benchmark, we allow them to develop and/or validate good pedagogical practices which ultimately benefit our schools and training centers.

Background

The mission of WorldSkills Belgium is to promote technical trades, qualification courses and skills (STEAM, soft skills, etc.). As a platform for exchange between the worlds of education, training and business, its values are excellence, passion for the trade, continuous training, openness to the world and the fight against prejudice (gender, origin, etc.). As a member of WorldSkills Europe and International, WorldSkills Belgium organises the annual Startech's Days: events, conferences and the finals of the Skills Championship. Out of the 800 registered participants and after selection, 250 to 300 young people aged 16 to 24 are trained in technical, soft and cross-cutting skills in approximatively thirty trades per year. At the end of the finals, a Belgian Team is selected to represent Belgium at European and world competitions. WorldSkills Belgium also participates in European projects such as Pact for Skills and Erasmus+ EgpiVET. This project, for which we have received European funding, concerns the participation of the Belgian Team in the international competition EuroSkills Graz 2021.
