Objectives

Ghent University (UGent) wants to take a leading role in Europe as a university that excels internationally in education and research, where all members of the UGent community feel at home and where students are optimally prepared for the challenges of today's globalized society and labour market, across national borders. Education and training play a crucial role in enabling young people to develop these international competences. A brainstorm on ‘future-proof education’ (2021), involving various UGent stakeholders has resulted in a continued commitment to UGent’s 6 Strategic Education Objectives. To meet future challenges, however, we must also take into account three additional key strategies: future-proof curricula, lifelong learning, and Blend@UGent. It is our ambition to train students into becoming lifelong learning citizens. To accelerate the implementation of this new education vision at Ghent University APOLLO 8 was created and rolled out from November 2021 to October 2023. The Erasmus+ programme is a very important verhicle to develop this policy. The Erasmus+ programme allows the internationalisation of higher education to remain on the agenda of every university in Europe.
