Objectives

By sharing academic resources, the consortium’s overall aim is to increase analytic and professional skills among students and Lifelong learners to improve their competencies in CCM through use of GIS and RS tools online. Herein, GeoCLIC introduces the Work-based learning approach to develop training projects and internships in areas impacted by Climate Change. A particular priority is to motivate participation of female learners. 5 modules and OERs (Open Educational Resources) related to CCM will be developed and further enhanced by the use of innovative online learning tools and international collaboration. Employability skills will be boosted by hands-on practices and direct contact with employers. To transfer the project benefits to society, multiple interactions between educators, researchers, environment companies/NGOs and decisionmakers are planned. In summary, we aim to improve employability among enrolled and unemployed graduates as CC analyst in earth observation, GIS/RS sector; strengthen cooperation among GIS/RS enterprises and academia; ensure sustainability with OER and MOODLE program in geoinformation in CCM.

Background

The project was created through previous partnerships in various E+ CBHE projects. All partners have background in geoinformatics, remote sensing, GIS, geodesy, agriculture, etc. We would like to create a project to address Sustainable Development Goals, in particular in Climate Change mitigation. We checked online there are no programs addressing directly the topic: geoinformation on climate change management. Due to the complimentary background in agriculture, urban, forestry and experience with applying newly available sensor technologies such as hyperspectral images, lidar, drone-based photogrammetry, we decided to strengthen the partnership in creating MOODLE program on the topics, providing necessary open source elearning materials for potential students and professionals. The courses are designed in a way that anyone can start learning the skills even with no remote sensing and GIS background. As long as they are interested in climate change management, and would like to learn the skills and methods in geoinformation, they can receive professional trainings through output of this project.
