The project supports the implementation of the KAE mission statement, in particular the guiding principle: "We teach several languages and open our eyes to the world in which we live." In Ireland the pupil Soraya Piel had the opportunity to learn the English language very well and to get to know the Irish culture and the country of Ireland. In addition, the KAE promotes the social skills of its pupils and the KAE would like to prepare its pupils for an independent life, both of which have well been implemented in the project.
The Königliches Athenäum Eupen (KAE) is a general education state secondary school of the German-speaking Community of Belgium. At the KAE, 891 pupils aged 12-18 are currently being taught. From the 3rd year, students choose a field of study: Latin, natural, social or economic sciences, modern languages, sports, football or computer science. The courses can also be chosen bilingually (German/French) and prepare you for studying at universities and colleges. KAE student Soraya Piel, who participated in the long-term mobility in Ireland in the school year 2021-2022, was 14 years old when the mobility started. In the school year 2020-2021 she attended the 3rd year in the German-speaking computer science department at KAE. She is a very good and motivated student and is very interested in the English language and culture, which is why she wanted to do this year abroad. At the time of the mobility, she was in a 4th year of secondary education at the Irish school and was living with an Irish host family. KAE took advantage of the new long-term mobility opportunity for a secondary school student offered by Erasmus+ 2021-2027 to allow a KAE student to experience a school year abroad in Ireland.
