Objectives

Information literacy, is the ability to feel the need for information, to define it, to reach it and to evaluate, organize and use. In today's world, there are all kinds of resources and information in the internet environment and it is obligatory to have the skills of: Knowing the types of sources; Evaluating the means of access to information; Analyzing the need for information and Reorganizing the information. Being information literate in the digital world forms the basis of the lifelong learning process. The university youth, who used the digital world only for chatting, social communication and listening to music, proved that they lack digital information literacy in homework preparation and exams during the pandemic process in 2019-2021. They can not to adequately use the digital resources, which universities have subscribed to by spending thousands of euros. They lack knowledge about the possibility of free access to information, programs and resources known to be accurate. The principal goal of the project was to design an innovative, guiding, competitive and international curriculum corresponding to present day need digital information literacy and to design an e-learning course for university students.

Background

The European University Association's DIGI-HE project explores different ways in which higher education institutions can increase their strategic approach to digitally enhanced learning and teaching and increase their capacity. During the Covid-19 period, all courses were conducted remotely in a digital environment. This period proved once again that most students in higher education do not have digital information literacy. They graduate from university without learning how to use the information resources. The epidemic in 2019 and 2020 proved to us that students who do not know how to properly use digital tools in distance learning receive a worse education than others. Students need to know how to choose the right information among the many on the Internet, especially how to access the scientific resources of educational units, use and compile information. In this project, the key to student success in higher education is digital literacy. The project aimed to develop an international curriculum for digital education, modules for digital education and a distance learning portal and to promoted the digital literacy course as a compulsory or elective course in higher education institutions.
