Objectives

In implementing the "Happiness - simple solution to complex problems" project, our primary objectives were to enhance the social and emotional well-being of students aged 13-17 and to equip teachers with the necessary tools and training for this purpose. We aimed to develop and integrate a happiness-focused curriculum into the educational system, addressing a significant gap in traditional academic programs. This curriculum was designed to improve students' self-awareness, empathy, resilience, and overall mental health. Additionally, we wanted to create innovative, accessible online learning resources and a comprehensive teacher training toolkit. These tools were intended to support the practical application of happiness and well-being principles in everyday classroom activities. Ultimately, our goal was to foster a more holistic educational environment where students could thrive not only academically but also emotionally and socially, preparing them for a balanced and successful future.

Background

We applied for the "Happiness - simple solution to complex problems" project to address the critical need for enhanced social and emotional education among students aged 13-17. Our motivation came from the recognition that while students receive adequate academic support, there is a significant gap in addressing their social and emotional needs. This gap can adversely affect their well-being, academic performance, and future success. In modern educational systems, there's often an overemphasis on academic results, leading to stress and anxiety among students. We identified the need for a curriculum that focuses not just on intellectual development but also on happiness and well-being, equipping students with skills like self-awareness, empathy, and resilience. Furthermore, we noticed that teachers lacked sufficient training and resources to effectively implement social and emotional learning. By developing a comprehensive training program and support materials for teachers, we aimed to foster a more inclusive and supportive educational environment.
