The main goal of the GROOVE project was to enhance the digital literacy and competencies of vocational education and training (VET) providers, trainers, and learners. The specific objectives of the project were to: 1. Support VET providers and trainers in preparing and implementing a digital education action plan. 2. Support VET teachers and trainers in modernizing their teaching practices through pedagogically-driven digital technologies and online education, including remote teaching. 3. Enhance the digital competencies of VET learners for the modern era. 4. Create innovative resources for VET providers, teachers, trainers, and learners. 5. Raise awareness about the importance of digital literacy for low-skilled adults in Europe.
The European Union has identified digital transformation as a major priority in all its policies and directives. This includes initiatives such as the European Education Area, the Digital Education Action Plan, the European Skills Agenda, the Europass Portfolio, and the Digital Competence Framework for citizens and educators. The European Commission has prioritized the development of digital skills and recognized education stakeholders as key players in bringing innovations to meet the sector's needs. Notably, Vocational education and training (VET) plays an important role in providing lifelong learning that helps individuals gain skills relevant to the economy and important for personal development and active citizenship. Also, the European Commission has emphasized the need for VET to adapt to the digital age, especially in light of the impact of the coronavirus crisis. The GROOVE project addressed the increasing demand for a digitally competent workforce by supporting VET providers and trainers in modernizing their practices and building digital literacy skills among low-skilled adults. This aligns with the European Skills agenda, which aims for 70% of 16 to 74-year-olds to have at least basic digital skills by 2025.
