Objectives

Every year, the Earth yields billions of tons of natural resources and at some point, in the not-too-distant future, it will run out. That’s why we must think again about what we throw away, seeing- not waste but opportunity. The last decade has been the hottest on record, and we are now facing a climate emergency of unparalleled proportions. If we don’t make significant and rapid changes, we will see continued rising global temperatures, the melting of icecaps, continents on fire and rapid deforestation This directly affects humanity with increased poverty, immigration from displaced communities, job losses, waste mountains and natural habitats disappearing. We have the power to make lasting changes to combat this, and with recycling being recognized in the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals 2030, we are already seeing many individuals, governments and organisations taking direct action to support the global green agenda. Recycling is a key part of the circular economy, helping to protect our natural resources. Each year the ‘Seventh Resource’ (recyclables) saves over 700 million tonnes in CO2 emissions and this is projected to increase to 1 billion tons by 2030. There is no doubt recycling is on the front line in the war to save the future of our planet and humanity. "Youth change for climate action" was a project created to promote and encourage a global spirit in the context of the huge need in the world for a positive change. The project followed the idea to grow concern for how the world is in the moment, to bring along sustainable changes and educate youngsters how to become global citizens through non-formal education and learning support measures. For 8 workdays gathered 32 youngsters and 8 leaders, in order to create a space for exchanging experiences, inspiration and promote awareness on global issues Objectives: O1: raising awareness among youths on sustainable development issues O2: practicing leadership skills among youths, in order to become changemakers in their communities O3: improving know-how among youths on community organizing, online and in-person O4: developing know-how on community gardening and new urbanism Through the implementation of this project we aim, primarily, to contribute to the development and involvement of young people from Europe while promoting the need for self-awareness, innovation and face of environmental problems with circular economy. Specifically, this project wants to achieve intends to develop each one’s self-awareness, in combination with the promotion of need of the awareness of HR. Furthermore, it purposes to come up against the factors which depreciate the way we understand ourselves. Moreover, the implementation of this project aims to discover our strengths and to understand that hidden within every weakness are our strengths, so sometimes we must look at them from a new perspective. As we focus on ourselves and start evaluating our current behavior, in comparison to our internal standards and values, we become self-conscious, and we become an objective evaluator of ourselves. Another basic purpose of the project is to encourage youths to be as much as possible innovative. They will understand that getting out of the box, giving their own ideas, leads to innovation, innovation leads to success and success leads to further improvement of what they are thinking. Those factors are interconnected. By implementing this project, we also encouraged people use their strengths and powers to overcome environmental problems like climate change, greenhouses gases, tons of garbage everywhere and a lot of pollution anywhere resulting from ignorance and infringement of our HR. The aim of the project "Youth change for climate action" was to raise awareness of young EU citizens and the critical understanding of migration caused by climate change, as it is considered one of the biggest challenges in the world. Through the implementation of the project, we aimed to inform the young citizens of Cyprus about the relationship between the economic system in which we live, our way of life and the human impact on climate change in the World South. In addition, as a partner in the Project, it aimed to promote sustainable lifestyles and a shift towards a holistic model for human economy, as well as the active participation and action of young people to tackle climate change, as a challenge of displacement worldwide. The Project aimed to educate young people and inform them, to strengthen their voice and to support their actions on climate change. After all, young people are the tails of any social, environmental and economic change to improve human living conditions. Through the proper use of social media, young people from all countries and partner organizations in the project promoted the message of change and highlight the importance of climate change in terms of population migration.
