‘’Balance in Motion’’ as a project was based on achieving the concept of ‘balance’, a concept that was approached using a plethora of non-formal educational tools, mainly through movement, circus arts, nature and art-based activities. The covid situation had brought a psychological toll on all of us, one way or another, and it had come to our understanding that there was a fair amount of collective emotions, provoked by the uncertainty of the times. With the effects of long-term isolation, the project ‘Balance in Motion’ creatively addresses the need for reconnection and rebuilding a healthier and more balanced individual and community. Through our experience with facilitating as well as participating in European projects, we truly believe in the impact that a single project can have on individual, group, local and European levels. Our objectives aimed to target some of the needs including self-esteem and confidence increased, active participation, sense of belonging, learning to learn. We were creating a safe space where acceptance, altruism, understanding and sharing are some of the key values. Within this space, participants had the chance and the resources to reconnect with themselves, through several forms of arts whilst slowly transitioning to a more collective level as the project moved forward and as the group was more connected. Circus Arts can be used as a vehicle in expanding one’s perceptual boundaries, expanding our potentials, as well as can be used for personal and collective development. Building stronger social webs was another key element of the project, which was accompanied by an increased sense of oneness, a celebration of cultural diversity, peace and equality, as well as an increased sense of initiative which unfolded a series of events in their local communities as well, as they also builded European networks with the other people involved in the project. Another need we were addressing was the need for nature connection. The growing technological society had drifted away from nature and lock-downs with the pandemic had increased the disconnection from nature. By increasing our nature connection, experiencing the ways of nature, we as humans can also find balance in the motion of our cycles as well as enhance our mental, physical and emotional well-being. There was a focus on both individual and collective levels; supporting individual development and social change. It was a very good opportunity for aspiring youth workers and leaders to step forward and gain experience by sharing responsibilities before, during and after the implementation of the project. It was a chance to gain new competencies through the use of non-formal education methodologies as well as working with a diverse group of people. The ongoing pandemic had created a social gap and had affected the mental well being on an individual level, and such mobilities like this one needed to reconstruct some realities that were considered as given a year ago but now are not. This mobility used non-formal methods and principles based on the Erasmus+ including: learning in non-formal contexts using the SEAL model; active participation and youth workers in the whole process of the project from pre to post; learning activities in different environments; activities being facilitated by professionals; the fields of social inclusion, self-development through activities; offering space for interaction, sharing of ideas, reflections; allowing participants to contribute to the activities with their knowledge and skills, and to undertake their evaluations, including reflections on competences. The YEs and Erasmus+ objectives were connected and linked with our objectives allowing participants to be empowered and to become active citizens, and help them acquire and develop competencies for life and their professional future, foster intercultural dialogue and learning and the feeling of being European; develop skills and attitudes of young people; strengthen European values and breaking down prejudices and stereotypes; raise awareness about socially relevant topics and thus stimulate engagement in society and active participation. Taking into account the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, our activities were based on the following two goals Goal 16: peace, justice, and strong institutions & Goal 10: Reduced inequalities, alongside the European Youth Goals including creating inclusive societies, encouraging space and participation for all and connecting the EU with youth, the project derived from our deep passion for these subjects. Last but not least in an indirect way, based on Erasmus + objectives, our mobility contributed to sustainable growth, quality jobs, and social cohesion, driving innovation, and strengthening the European identity and active citizenship of the participants.
