Objectives

We wanted to improve methodology for working with pupils with different first language and enable them to be quickly and safely integrated into school life and lessons. The goal was to reduce the difference in the results of foreign students and to enable these children to work in a supportive environment. Unfortunately, we had almost no experience with it. When writing the application for the project, we consulted this issue with schools abroad, which had more experience in working with foreigners, and shared with us ideas, worksheets, and methodological procedures. This cooperation made it much easier for us to manage the refugees from Ukraine.

Background

Masaryk Elementary School in Velká Bystřice educates pupils aged 6 - 15. In most grades, there are three parallel classes. The school provides basic education, it is located in the center of the town, it is the only school in the town and provides education for surrounding smaller villages. We are the largest school in the network of primary schools of the Bystřička Microregion, within which we cooperate closely with other schools, organize regular meetings and trainings, where we also present the work of the Erasmus+ team. In addition to basic education, we also offer a wide range of extracurricular education - languages, the Erasmus club, technical education, IT, cooking, fine arts, logical skills, sports, Czech for foreigners, etc. In spring 2022, we had to deal with more than 30 pupils from Ukraine. Most of them stayed in our village and successfully finished the 2022-23 school year at our school.
