Objectives

The main theme of the project was sustainability in tourism services. Our students got the opportunity to explore this topic both theoretically and practically. The participants were thoroughly prepared for their mobilities during the pre-departure course that included mainly language, vocational, safety and practical tasks. They familiarized themselves with the topic of sustainability through several research tasks before their mobilities. Sustainability has further been included as an integral part of two VET subjects and has been included in the school education programme. This means that all Business Academy students will learn about this topic in the future. Thanks to the mobilities, 30 participants applied their vocational skills and knowledge in various hosting companies working in the field of hospitality and tourism services. They got acquainted with modern trends in tourism and developed their vocational and personal skills, especially their English, IT, soft skills and intercultural competence. The internships increased participants' competitiveness in the labour market and developed their sense of responsibility and initiative. The project brought desirable modernization of learning content in VET subjects.

Background

Gymnazium, Stribro, Sobeslavova 1426 is a local secondary school offering two fields of study: an eight-year general grammar school and a four-year vocational business academy. The project "SMART Tourism Services" was primarily aiming at 30 Business Academy students. Business Academy Stribro provides specialized VET secondary education for 15-19-year-old students in the economic field and tourism services, and the study programme is finished by a final graduation exam. In addition to general education subjects (e.g. languages, math, science, IT), students study a number of vocational subjects (e.g. economics, accounting, law, electronic communication, tourism services, economic geography, tourism marketing and management). After their studies, students either find jobs in offices, manufacturing companies, local businesses, finance, tourism services, or they continue in their studies in that field at colleges and universities. Some students start their own businesses. The project Erasmus+ focused on the topic of sustainability in tourism services and 30 students got the opportunity to participate in internships abroad and thus develop numerous skills and implement their theoretical knowedge into practice.
