The project "Healthy food: a tool for integration" was born out of a reflection on the role of food in Europe. We believe that food plays an important role in our lives and it is essential that we better understand our relationship with food in order to improve ourselves. First of all, the quality of food is fundamental to a healthy lifestyle: Eurostat data has shown that obesity is a major problem for a large proportion of young people in Europe. Developing a project that can inform participants about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and a balanced diet, using non-formal education, can have a great impact in trying to provide a solution to the problem of obesity. Furthermore, food can be a perfect tool for integration. Europe offers many different dishes and each country has its own culinary tradition. these dishes have similarities and differences between each other, and each product can be an expression of the culture of the country of origin. Sharing culinary practices and discussing the history of local European food and products between people from different countries are useful non-formal ways to improve tolerance and respect and to teach young people about their common European roots. After the project, participants will be able to expand their skills in using food as a tool for inclusion, they will know how to create a balanced diet, and they will understand the importance of zero-kilometre foods, which are not only important because of their role in the economy, but are also fundamental in telling the story of a country.
