The 'Digital Backpack' project was developed with the goal of increasing the digital literacy of young people, including those with fewer opportunities. The idea for this youth exchange originated from young people within our organization who recognized the need to enhance their skills in finding, evaluating, and creating clear information on various digital platforms, including writing and other media forms. They also expressed a strong interest in producing their own content, such as text, images, audio, and videos, to share their perspectives on various issues. The need for this project arose as a result of the COVID-19 situation, which highlighted the importance of acquiring new digital competences and becoming digitally literate. We shared the idea with our partner network and gradually developed the project application. We chose to focus on digital literacy and digital skills because, in 2019, 80% of young people aged 16 to 24 in the European Union (EU) possessed basic or above basic digital skills. This figure was 24 percentage points higher than the share of individuals aged 16 to 74 (56%). Objectives of youth exchange ‘Digital Backpack’: -to develop digital competences of young people with special attention to be paid to young people with fewer opportunities; -to empower young people to use their digital skills to be digitally active and to raise awareness on issues that matters to them; -to narrow the digital gap between young people coming from different backgrounds and to offer all young people an opportunity to access services in digital space; -to raise competences of young people to navigate through digital space, to analyze messages, to adequately respond to them and to stay safe on in digital space; -to encourage young people to work together with young people coming from different countries and to share experiences and lessons learned; -to provide young people information on Erasmus + Programme and the opportunities; -to create series of short videos promoting development of digital competences, digital activism and Erasmus + Programme and to share them through social media and other channels; -to encourage young people to share ideas for future actions and projects.
