Objectives

Dating is complicated. As queer people, we grow up with norms of all kinds that we don‘t fit into. We are not straight, not cis, not „normal“ enough. We internalize shame and mental health struggles that we have to work against all of our lives. Many queer youth find themselves stuck in codependent relationships, substance abuse, sex addiction, etc. Finding partners in this context, be it offline or online, can be full of complications: How do I find someone who likes me, when deep down I feel ashamed of who I am? How do I deal with rejection and discrimination in the dating sphere? What is my own position around monogamy and polyamory? How can I feel sexy, beautiful and attractive in times of Instagram, Grindr and Tinder? Queer youth workers often deal with these questions and struggles, yet there are never occasions for queer youth to speak about these topics in a safe space for an extended period. And in general we felt like there were not enough Erasmus+ opportunities for queer young people yet. With this project, we wanted queer youth to empower each other in their orientation, reflection and self-discovery around relationships. We wanted to encourage young queers from around Europe to build communities and to create their own queer families that give them support and love. Our objectives were: 1. Create a safer space for queer youth from around Europe to be themselves, both at the youth exchange and in their daily lives after the project 2. Promote young queer people’s active citizenship and increase their participation in society 3. Foster mutual understanding and solidarity between young queer people in different European countries 4. Reflect on personal and societal challenges around dating and relationships in queer contexts and promote healthy dating and relationship practices 5. Promote Erasmus+ as an opportunity for the participants 6. Create new long-lasting partnerships between organizations from all around Europe working with queer youth 7. Promote European values of democracy, human rights, gender equality and non-violence 8. Promote the visibility of queer lifestyles and queer realities in non-queer contexts
