Objectives

In this project, we experienced the pedagogical concept of “friluftsliv” (outdoor life) and its potential in youth work. We tackled two demanding questions of youth work: how can we make our youth work ecologically and socially sustainable? How can we encourage young people to connect to nature and integrate the concept of friluftsliv in their own lifes? As our first objective for the project week we trained youth workers in the pedagogigical concept of friluftsliv so that it can be implemented in different cultural surroundings around Europe. We shared pedagogical tools and methods whilst incorporating new perspectives and feedback from youth workers of different organisations. As our second objective we encouraged and facilitated youth workers from different organisations to collaborate, create new partnerships and get inspired to create projects together. This has resulted in collaborativ projects currently already under way There we are working with environmentally friendly, sustainable methods learned in this project. Our goal of peer-to-peer learning has resulted that now more experienced youth workers will be working together with youth workers that were new to the field, and are now faciliating knowledge and experience transfer (e.g. wilderness pedagogics). This is true mentorship as it is part oft he friluftsliv concept.
