Objectives

Through the "Youth for Seniors" project we wanted to achieve various goals. Above all it was important to involve young people from Słubice and Frankfurt (Oder) in local affairs and activities. We wanted young people not only to integrate with each other but also with people from a different age bracket and country. In doing so, they were to break down many boundaries. The first boundary we wanted to break was the age barrier between seniors and young people from Germany and Poland. Often young people think that senior citizens "don't understand them" in many aspects. However, the truth is quite different, and very often intergenerational meetings are a good time and provide many life lessons. Also, seniors often feel estranged from those younger than them. With this, we wanted to prove that the younger generation is not like that at all. Through such meetings, they were able to learn from each other. Thanks to this project, a trace of the seniors and young people will forever remain on the Internet, in recordings and photographs and in the memories of many people. An important aspect for us is German-Polish cooperation. Young people who now live on the border, in Słubice and Frankfurt (Oder), experience a lot of twintowns events. It is more natural for them because they have grown up with it. The case is different for senior citizens. Many of them date back to the war or the post-war era. Relationships were not as easy then as they are today. With our project, we wanted to give them the opportunity to get to know people from another country, their perspectives and interesting stories. With open borders, there are also many benefits which they could notice more. Another important border that we wanted to overcome together is the focus on Life Long Learning. A person, regardless of age, is a lifelong learner. We wanted to draw attention to the importance of self-development and the development of passions and interests. One such example is the use of technology. For example, mobile phones, which for young people are such an obvious tool that they use every day. Unlike seniors, who find them difficult. Through mobile communication, senior citizens have been able to understand not only how important this invention is, but also how it makes everyday life easier. Objectives of the project were: - Provide participants with the necessary skills, knowledge and attitudes on inclusion of young people in activities which are connected living on the border issues; - Share experience and examples of good practices by methods of non- formal education and learning from each other; - Increase awareness of youth and Seniors about Changing living situations, cooperation between border towns and living in diversity; - Using and improve Soft skills; - Share opinions, approaches, experience and knowledge on different topics, situations and issues; - Promote Equality and Living in Diversity for the Local Community; - Raise awareness about European and living on the border opportunities; - Provide a space for sharing best practices focusing on using non-formal educational methods in the field of youth work ; - Introduce Youth Pass as a tool for self-assessment, evaluation and recognition of non-formal learning ;
