Objectives

The Model European Parliament is a project, where young people take on the role of Members of the European Parliament in order to experience democratic decision-making and political opinion-forming processes in a combination of play and reality, oriented towards their own living environment. With this project, we are campaigning for an open, solidary, democratic Europe that is suitable for young people. After the Corona crisis, meetings and joint initiatives of European civil society were more important than ever. Covid-19 forced us to rethink our social and democratic constitution and to learn lessons. Even before the Corona crisis, European integration was in a deep crisis of confidence. Euroscepticism and nationalism are on the rise almost everywhere in the EU. All this unsettles young people and blurs their image of the EU. The main issue was more say for young people. Aim for more democracy : Democracy is the political and legal foundation of the EU and its member states. Preserving and strengthening it is a perennial task for all. However, doubts are currently growing in many Member States, including among young people, as to whether democracies continue to be the best form of government to solve the problems of the day. Populists and nationalists in particular are trying to unsettle young people with simple answers. But it is precisely democracies and democratic commitment that enable young people to live responsibly in a free society. Goal More Europe: Eurobarometer surveys and studies show that knowledge about the EU is deficient, resulting in a loss of confidence in European integration. Yet Europe is the framework that increasingly influences the lives of young people. With the MEP, we wanted to open up a protected space for critical discussion of current structures, challenges and processes throughout Europe and the EU, and offer young people the opportunity to analyse existing political conditions and their own interests, as well as to show ways of actively shaping them. In this way, Europe could be experienced as a dynamic and open process. - Participation in the EU Youth Dialogue: We used the instruments of the Youth Dialogue and participated in the consultations in the field of "EU Youth Policy" and other actions for the implementation of the EU Youth Goals. The dialogue between youth and politics was profitable for both sides and will have a long-term effect. A cooperation with youth policy structures and actors was initiated and related above all to the reality of young people's lives. In doing so, we also oriented ourselves to the priorities of the trio presidency 2022-2023. Co-organising the EU Future Congress: The European Future Congress, which Commission President von der Leyen announced a year late on 9 May, is not only about the question of how decision-making processes should be reformed, but fundamentally about the question of what kind of Europe we want to live in. One third of the participants in the 4 conferences should be young people. We have taken up this impulse and linked the EU Youth Dialogue with the EU reform discussion. - Digitalisation We have actively implemented and developed the potential of digitalisation in the project.
